Plot Summary: If
you have not read the book, this summary contains spoilers!
Eragon focuses around the tale of a young farm boy named Eragon who lives
in the small village of Carvahall on the outskirts of the Spine mountain
range. The story takes place in the magical world of Alagaësia, which
lives under the tyranny of an evil ruler, Galbatorix. While hunting in the
spine, Eragon finds a large blue dragon egg, which he believes at the time to be
a magical stone. A blue dragon, Saphira, hatches from the egg and with her
comes an adventure that sets Eragon's destiny. Eragon keeps his dragon a
secret for as long as he can and comes home one day to find his uncle Garrow
dead in the remains of their home. Eragon leaves Carvahall with Saphira
and a wise old storyteller, Brom. Eragon and Saphira mark the beginning
for a new era of dragon riders. Eragon learns from Brom skill in magic and
sword fighting in order to prepare him for a fight against those who murdered
his Uncle Garrow. In his travels, after the death of Brom and the
discovery of a new friend, Murtagh, Eragon takes refuge with the Varden, a
hidden order which is set on overthrowing King Galbatorix. When the Varden
is attacked Eragon fights in the battle of Farthen Dûr and defeats the evil
shade Durza.
