Angela – An eccentric herbalist living in Teirm. She helps Eragon
throughout his journey and tells his fortune to him using the knucklebones of a
dragon.
Angrenost – The king of Alagaesia before Galbatorix took over.
Anhuin – A dwarven woman who died of grief. The dwarven clan Az Sweldn
rak Anhuin takes their name after her.
Anurin – The predecessor of Vrael as the head Rider.
Arya – An elven princess from Ellesmera, rescued by Eragon. She was the
bearer of Saphira’s egg as it traveled back and forth from the elves to the
Varden.

Baldor – Son of Horst.
Bardrick – A citizen of Carvahall.
Bartram – The smith of Carvahall before Horst.
Bellaen – An elf of House Miolandra.
Beroan – The name of an ancient dragon.
Birgit – The wife of Quimby and mother of Nolfavrell. She’s a
strong-willed woman who has a grudge against Roran.
Blagden – A white raven residing in Ellesmera. He belongs to Islanzadi
and often speaks nonsense.
Bonden – A sailor who is part of the crew of the Dragon Wing.
Brand – The administrator of trade in Teirm.
Brenna – An old citizen of Carvahall who froze to death during the trip
to Surda.
Briam – The name of an ancient dragon.
Brokk – The father of the dwarf Thorv.
Brom – A Dragon Rider in the disguise of a storyteller in Carvahall. He
later joins Eragon when Saphira hatches for him. His dragon Saphira died awhile
back. He himself dies in Book One.
Byrd – The husband of Felda who was murdered by Sloan.

Cadoc – The steed of Eragon; bought from Therinsford.
Calitha – The wife of Thane.
Calwey – A farmer who’s farm is on Nost Creek.
Celdin – An elf who guides Eragon to Ellesmera.
Ceranthor – An elven king who fought dragons during the war.
Clovis – The owner of barges in Narda who helps the villagers from
Carvahall get to Teirm.

Dahwar – King Orrin’s seneschal.
Damitha – The captain of Silthrim.
Darmmen – One of the three sons of Loring.
Dathedr – A lord of Ellesmera.
Dellanir – An ancient queen of Du Weldenvarden.
Delwin – A citizen of Carvahall.
Dempton – A smith from Therinsford who Roran works for.
Denyor – The leader of the Varden before Ajihad.
Derund – The father of the Tarnag leader Undin.
Dormnad – A man living in Gil’ead. He knows the location of the Varden.
Drail – The name of the assassin who tried to kill Nasuada.
Durza – A Shade working for Galbatorix. He’s been sent to find the egg
that was stolen from Galbatorix. He’s killed at the end of Book One.
Dusan – One of the two elven children living in Ellesmera.
Duthmer – One of Eragon’s dwarven guards on his way to Ellesmera.

Edurna – An elf who guides Eragon to Ellesmera.
Ekksvar – One of Eragon’s dwarven guards on his way to Ellesmera.

Elessari – A woman who is a member of the Council of Elders.
Elmund – The son of Delwin.
Elva – A young girl that Eragon accidentally cursed. She is eccentric
and has powers of ridding peoples’ pain.
Eridor – The name of an ancient dragon; the successor of Vanilor.
Ethlbert – A citizen of Carvahall who refuses to leave after the
villagers of Carvahall journey to Surda.
Evandar – The king who succeeded Dellanir. He is the father of Arya.

Falberd – A man who is a member of the Council of Elders.
Faolin – An elf that Arya loved. He was one of her guards that got
killed by Urgals.
Farica – Nasuada’s handmaid.
Farold – A citizen of Carvahall.
Felda – The wife of Byrd who was murdered by Sloan.
Fisk – The carpenter of Carvahall.
Flint – One of the crew of the barges called the Red Boar.
Folkvir – The name of the elven horse that Eragon rides in Du
Weldenvarden.
Fredric – A man who tests Eragon’s skills in swordsmanship in Book One.
He is the weapon master of the Varden.
Frewin – One of Torson’s men.
Fundor – The name of an ancient dragon; fought the sea snake.
Futhark – One of the legendary dwarven smiths of Durgrimst Ingeitum.

Galbatorix – The tyrannical king of Alagaesia. He became mad after his
dragon was killed by Urgals.
Galina – The daughter of Clovis.
Galton – A citizen of Teirm who sells food.
Galzra – The name of an ancient dragon.
Gamble – A resident of the Varden.
Gannel, Grimstborith – The priest in Tarnag and the chief of the dwarven
clan called Durgrimst Quan.
Gareth – The bartender of a tavern in Teirm called The Green Chestnut.
He tries to trick money from Brom.
Garner – A citizen of Carvahall.
Garrow – Eragon and Roran’s uncle. He dies after the Ra`zac attack
Carvahall.
Gedric – The tanner of Carvahall.
Gerand – A great warrior who gave up fighting for a farm and a wife.
Gertrude – The healer of Carvahall.
Gilderien the Wise – An elf who is the Prince of House Miolandra, wielder
of the White Flame of Vandil. He is the guardian of Ellesmera.
Glaedr – The dragon of Oromis. He is also the tutor of Saphira.
Glenwing – One of Arya’s guards that got killed by Urgals.
Greta – The caretaker of Elva.
Gretiem – The name of an ancient dragon.

Murtagh in Book Two.

to Orik.

Iormungr – The father of Saphira. He was bound to a Rider.
Irwin – The prime minister of Surda.
Islanzadi – The queen of Ellesmera. She is Arya’s mother.
Isold – The wife of Fisk.
Ivor – A farmer living in Carvahall.

Jeod – A merchant living in Teirm; friend of Brom. He secretly ships
goods to the Varden through his ships. Lately though, someone has been
destroying his ships. Jormundur – Ajihad’s second in command. He is a member
of the Council of Elders.
Jura – The name of an ancient dragon; fought the sea snake.

Katrina – The fiancée of Roran; Sloan’s daughter.
Kedar – The father of Dahwar.
Kelby – A citizen of Carvahall.
Kelton – A smith living in Ceunon who taught Horst after Bartram died.
Kilf – The dwarven goddess of rivers and the sea; Guntera’s wife.
Kiselt – A farmer living in Carvahall.
Knute – A citizen of Carvahall who refuses to leave after the villagers
of Carvahall journey to Surda.
Korgan – The first king of the dwarves.

Larkin – The father of Orrin who was also king before Orrin.

Lenora – The name of an ancient female dragon.
Lifaen – An elf from House Rilvenar. He guides Eragon to Ellesmera
Linnea – An elf who created the Menoa Tree through her grief of losing
the one she loved.
Lorga – The name of Trianna’s snake bracelet. He is her familiar and
protector.
Loring – The shoemaker of Carvahall.

Maerzadi – An elf who evaded the premonition that he would accidentally
kill his son in battle by committing suicide.
Mandel – The oldest son of Felda and Byrd.
Marian – Garrow’s wife and Eragon’s aunt. She died when Eragon was
young.
Martin – A sailor from Teirm. He saves Brom a few crowns from Gareth.
Maud – A werecat residing in Ellesmera.
Melkolf – A citizen of Carvahall.
Merlock – A trader who specializes in odd trinkets.
Miremel – The name of a female, brown dragon.
Morgothal – The brother of the god Urur. He is the god of fire.
Morn – The bartender of the tavern in Carvahall.
Morzan – One of the thirteen Forsworn; original owner of the blade
Zar`roc. He was killed by Brom.
Murtagh – The son of Morzan and Selena. He saves Eragon from the Ra`zac,
and later becomes a Dragon Rider in Book two. His dragon’s name is Thorn.

Nar Garzhvog – A Kull of the Bolvek tribe. He and other Kull agree to
fight on the Varden’s side during the Battle of the Burning Plains.
Nari – An elf who guides Eragon to Ellesmera.
Nasuada – The daughter of Ajihad. She becomes the leader of the Varden
after Ajihad dies in Book Two. She used to like Murtagh.
Nelda – The mother of Brom.
Nesbit - An old citizen of Carvahall who froze to death during the trip
to Surda.
Neya – One of the two elves who bears the tattoo of a dragon spirit.
Nolfavrell – A 13-year-old boy living in Carvahall. He’s the son of
Quimby, and he fights hard to avenge his father’s death.
Nolla – A citizen of Carvahall.
Nuada – An elf who was separated from his lover because of the sea.
Nuala – The author of an elven book called Convocations.

Odele – A young friend of Katrina.
Ohen the Strong – The name of an ancient dragon.
Opheila – The name of an ancient female dragon.
Orik – A dwarf of the clan called Durgrimst Ingeitum. He was adopted by
Hrothgar and joins Eragon in traveling to Ellesmera in Book Two.
Orm Blood-ax – The father of the dwarf Grimstborith Gannel.
Oromis – An ancient Rider living in secret in Ellesmera. He is also
known as The Cripple Who Is Whole or The Mourning Sage. He is Eragon’s tutor in
Book Two. His dragon is Glaedr.
Orrin – The king of Surda.
Orval – A citizen of Carvahall.

Palancar – The king of the citizens of Palancar Valley awhile back. He
was usurped and banished after trying to declare war against the elves.
Parr – A citizen of Carvhall.

Quimby – A farmer and part-time brewer in Carvahall; wife of Birgit. He
was killed by a soldier of the Empire.

Ra`zac – The dragon hunters of Galbatorix. They have a beak-like mouth,
for they’re not human. They kill Garrow in Book One.
Rhunon – An elven smith living in Ellesmera. She made the swords for the
Riders.
Ridley – A citizen of Carvahall.
Risthart – The leader of Teirm.
Roran – Eragon’s cousin. He’s faced with many dangers and decisions in
Book Two. He’s also Katrina’s fiancé.
Roslarb – The name of an ancient dragon.

Sabrae – A woman who is a member of the Council of Elders.
Saphira – A blue dragon who hatches for Eragon, deeming him a Dragon
Rider. Saphira was also the name of Brom’s old dragon.
Selena – Eragon’s mother who mysteriously disappeared after giving birth
to Eragon. Also the mother of Murtagh.
Shrrgnien – One of Eragon’s dwarven guards on his way to Ellesmera; means
Wolfheart.
Shruikan – Galbatorix’s black dragon, twisted to do his will by black
magic.
Sindri – The dwarven goddess of the earth.
Sloan – The butcher of Carvahall. He dislikes Eragon.
Snowfire – A stallion; the steed of Brom; bought from Therinsford.
Solembum – The werecat owned by Angela. He gives two pieces of useful
information to Eragon. He has the ability to transform into a young boy.
Svart – The uncle of Ivor.

Tabor, Marcus – Ruler of Dras-Leona.
Tara – The wife of Morn.
Tarmunora – The queen of Du Weldenvarden who joined together the dragons
and the elves, which through that, formed the first Dragon Riders.
Tathal – A groom working in a stable in Aberon.
Thane – A citizen of Carvahall.
The Twins – Two strong twin magicians working for the Varden. They
secretly work for the Empire though.
Thorgerd One-eye – The father of the dwarf Hvedra.
Thorn – Murtagh’s red dragon.
Thorv – A dwarf residing in Tarnag.
Thorv – One of Eragon’s dwarven guards on his way to Ellesmera.
Torkenbrand – The leader of a group of slavers in the Hadarac Desert.
Tornac – A man who taught Murtagh to fight; also Murtagh’s best friend.
He died when guards in Uru’Baen killed him as him and Murtagh were trying to
flee. Tornac is also the name of Murtagh’s steed.
Torson – One of the crew of the barges called the Red Boar.
Trevor – The defender of Daret; he was in the King’s army.
Trianna – The leader of Du Vrangr Gata (The Wandering Path), which is a
group of magicians working for the Varden.
Trihga – One of Eragon’s dwarven guards on his way to Ellesmera.

Ulric – A dockworker at Narda.
Umerth – A man who is a member of the Council of Elders.
Undin – The leader of Tarnag and the chief of a dwarven clan called The
River Guard.
Urur – The dwarven god who is the master of the air and hevens.
Uthar – A sailor who was part of Jeod’s crew before Jeod’s business went
bankrupt. He accompanies Jeod on the Dragon Wing.

Vanilor – The name of an ancient dragon.
Vanir – An elf of House Haldthin who spars with Eragon daily.
Vervada – A wild dragon who was the mother of Saphira.
Vrael – The leader of the old Dragon Riders; defeated by Galbatorix.
