Greetings once again! So much has happened since I last wrote, its amazing. I
spent most of March on the road with my second book tour for Random House/Knopf. All I can
say is Wow! I received such an incredible response from the booksellers, librarians, my
media escorts, and, of course, you the fans, it made the entire trip an absolute delight.
It would never have happened without everyones support.
Some highlights: When I was in a Boston library, I met a boy who had carved a wooden
Urgal-horn dagger! The blade was actually shaped like a corkscrew. . . . I have no idea
how he managed to make it.
Also in Boston, I got to meet Mike from the Du Shurtugal fan site, who came to
both my events there and recorded a brief interview with me. You can read it at www.dushurtugals.com. Cool!
In Philadelphia there was a man who has now come to three of my signings! Talk about
dedication.
In Washington, D.C., where I stayed in the Watergate Hotel, I got to see an Eragon
board game that a young boy had drawn and designed by himself. He had me sign it with
silver ink, but what I really wanted to do was to try the game!
A woman in Raleigh gave me a wonderful model of a white dragon that she had named
Ivora. Ivora now sits on a shelf in my room and watches me write.
Another treat was in Austin, where several of the school librarians who had invited me
into their schools with the self-published version of Eragon came to my booksigning. It
was great to see them again. If it werent for their help, Eragon would never have
had all this success. Three cheers for school librarians!
Over the past week, I dramatically expanded my guides to the ancient and dwarf
languages for the deluxe edition of Eragon that will be released this fall. My head is
still whirling with diereses and umlauts! However, I can confidently say that with
everything Ive provided and a bit of determination, it will be entirely possible to
teach yourself to speak those languages. Best of luck to those who are interested.
And now back to Eldest. . . .
May your swords stay sharp,
Christopher Paolini
